ORGANIZERS PROMISE EXCELLENT 2ND EDITION OF NASARAWA STATE U-13 INTER-PRIMARY SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT.

 















With just days to the kick-off of the second edition of the Nasarawa State U-13 Inter-Primary School Boys' Football Tournament, Organizers of the Competition have revealed that the tournament will surpass the previous edition in many ramifications as they have put necessary modalities in place to stage a historic and excellent event this year.


Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Nasarawa State Director of Information, Danmusa Mohammed, disclosed this during a chat with the Media Unit of the Competition on Friday.


According to him, "The Competition is organized to identify hidden football talents in the age-grade cadre across the State and nurture them into global stars.


"Secondly, it is aimed at discovering players that would form part of the maiden U-15 Football Club the Nasarawa State Government intends to float.


"After the maiden edition of the U-13 tournament, the proponent, Hon(Dr.) Aliyu Bello, through his NGO, The Aliyu Bello Charity Foundation, deemed it necessary to host the second edition, and so far, we are about kick-starting the second edition in earnest as preparations are already in top gear.


"The Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, gave approval for this competition and to partner with some key Ministries and Agencies of the Government like the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development; Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development; Ministry of Women's Affairs and Social Development; the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board; and the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Skills Acquisition Centre as well as the Nasarawa State Football Association.


"Additionally, based on the successes recorded in the first edition, some individuals and Organizations both within and outside Nigeria are making efforts to partner with us to see to the success of the competition.


"I spoke with a few individuals, including the head of a sports firm based in China who said he is interested in partnering with us and the State Government in some key areas to make the event a huge success."


Baring last minutes rush, Danmusa explained that Organizers have made provision for accommodation for all participating Local Government Areas' teams, including providing jerseys for the players to be used during the competition.


He added that arrangement is being made to provide food and other necessary logistics supports to each of the participating Local Government Areas, stressing that after the closing ceremony, a dinner party would be hosted in honour of the participants courtesy of the First Lady of Nasarawa State, Her Excellency, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, through the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Social Development, whereas accommodation for the entire duration of the tournament is provided by the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Skills Acquisition Centre which is a short distance from the venue of the competition, the Lafia City Stadium.


Governor Abdullahi Sule has thrown his weight behind the competition,  assuring of his availability at the appointed time. 


Wamba Local Government Area defeated Kokona Local Government Area in the final of the first edition decided at the Sports Complex of Federal University of Lafia in May 27th, 2023, while Lafia beat Keffi to win the third-place play-off.


There will be trophy for the eventual champions, prizes and other consolations for teams that finish 2nd and 3rd as well as exceptional players and coaches at the end of the competition.


The thirteen Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State who are all expected to  arrive Lafia on Sunday, 19th May, 2024, are split into four groups with two teams qualifying from each group into the knockout stage through a round robbin format.


The 2024 curtain raiser is between defending Champions, Wamba Local Government Area versus Doma Local Government Area on Monday, 20th May, 2024, at the Lafia City Stadium by 3pm, with the grand finale billed for Monday, May 27th, 2024.


The Nasarawa State U-13 Inter-Primary School Football Competition is the brainchild of the Aliyu Bello Charity Foundation in conjunction with the Nasarawa State Government and also seeks to celebrate the International Children's Day which holds every 27th May of every year.
