Women Farmers Trained on Reducing Post-Harvest Losses for Food Security as WODGOH Empowerment Initiative Holds Third Edition of Women Farmers Training

The Women of Dignity and Girls of Honour Empower Initiative (WODGOH) held its third edition of women farmers training on Wednesday, focusing on reducing post-harvest losses for increased food security and income in crops and livestock.


The training, attended by women farmers from various parts of the Federal Capital Territory,FCT,  aimed to equip participants with knowledge and skills to minimize food losses and contribute to a more secure food supply in Nigeria.


Experts emphasized the importance of food security, noting that up to 30% of global food production is lost after harvest. They stressed the need for innovative farming practices, proper harvesting techniques, and access to finance to ensure food security.


Speakers also highlighted the challenges facing the agricultural sector in Nigeria, including post-harvest losses, spoilage of perishable crops, and poor transportation. Solutions offered included proper harvesting techniques, drying and preservation, pest control measures, and cooperative farming.


The training also featured security tips from the Nigeria Police Force and marketing strategies to prevent food losses and increase profit.


WODGOH Executive Director, Mrs. Adekunle Racheal, assured participants that the organization will continue to support farmers in reducing post-harvest losses and achieving food security.
