It was a typical Monday morning in Lagos, but little did the residents of Victoria Island know that a massive operation was underway. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had been tracking a group of suspected crypto fraudsters, and the time had finally come to strike.
At dawn, EFCC agents descended upon a seven-storey building in the heart of Victoria Island, where the suspects were believed to be operating. The agents moved swiftly, arresting 792 individuals, including foreigners, in what the EFCC described as the "biggest arrest in a day".
The suspects, who included 114 Chinese nationals, 40 Filipinos, and individuals from other countries, were allegedly involved in various crypto-related scams. The EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, revealed that the suspects had been using the building as a hideout, where they would coordinate their fraudulent activities.
The EFCC's historic bust sent shockwaves through the crypto community, serving as a warning to those involved in illicit activities. As the investigation continues, the EFCC is expected to reveal more details about the suspects and their alleged crimes.
The successful operation was hailed as a major victory for the EFCC, which has been working tirelessly to combat financial crimes in Nigeria. With this massive bust, the agency has sent a clear message that it will not tolerate crypto-related fraud and will continue to work to protect the country's financial systems.
