The Arm Wrestling Federation of Nigeria is gearing up to host the African championship, with President Engr. Samuel Jackson announcing that the sport will take the country's sports arena by storm. The championship, scheduled for July 23, 2025, in Abuja, is expected to attract twenty countries ¹.
During an award presentation to athletes who represented the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in National Sports Festivals and National Youth games, Jackson revealed that arm wrestling will be taken to the grassroots level to discover new talents. "We will groom, nurture, and project them to the world," he said.
The sport will also be demonstrated at the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Ogun state, thanks to the support of National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman, Alhaji Sheu Dikko. Arm wrestling has already proven its mettle, contributing 13 medals to Nigeria's haul at the last All African games in Ghana.
In a nod to journalists who have promoted the sport, Jackson announced that they will have the opportunity to participate in the competition on July 23rd. The winner will even get to join the Nigerian contingent at the world arm wrestling competition in Bulgaria in August 2025.
