Fashanu Sounds Alarm: Nigeria's World Cup Qualification 'A must'.

Former England international and AFC Wimbledon striker, John Fashanu, has issued a stark warning about Nigeria's chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In an exclusive interview with  Omoh  Franklyn Imonah, Fashanu described the situation 'A must' emphasizing the high stakes involved. With the Super Eagles struggling to accumulate points in the qualifiers, Fashanu's comments highlight the urgency of the situation.

Fashanu, who has relocated to Nigeria to contribute to the development of sports, was candid about the consequences of failure. 'If we don't qualify, heads will roll', he joked, before adding that he was willing to lend his expertise to the team. With his wealth of experience playing at the highest level, Fashanu believes he could make a positive impact as coach of the Super Eagles.

The 62-year-old also shared a personal anecdote about his own experience with the Nigerian national team. Despite wanting to play for Nigeria during his playing days, Fashanu claimed he was asked for 'kickback', which he couldn't afford at the time. This revelation sheds light on the reported  challenges faced by Nigerian footballers and the need to intensify  reforms within the sport.

As Nigeria seeks to bounce back from their disappointing failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Fashanu's words serve as a rallying cry. With determination, hard work, and the right guidance, the Super Eagles can still turn their fortunes around and secure a spot at the 2026 World Cup.
