Setting the Record Straight: The Truth About Aper Aku Stadium Renovation

It has come to our attention that a misleading report is being circulated regarding the renovation of Aper Aku Stadium, particularly concerning Monimichelle Sports Facilities Construction Limited and its Managing Director, Mr. Ebi Egbe.

First, let it be known that while the Benue State House of Assembly is within its rights to seek accountability on public projects, the claims made in the report by Austin Tyowua are riddled with inaccuracies and exaggerations.

1. Funding and Project Timeline

The allegation that Monimichelle Sports collected "large sums of money without tangible results" is both misleading and malicious. Renovation projects of this magnitude follow structured phases, and payments are made based on the progress of work done—not arbitrarily. As of today, the work done on the stadium is visible, and while delays have occurred, it is due to factors beyond the contractor’s control, including bureaucratic processes and logistical challenges.

2. Project Scope and Progress

Contrary to the report’s claim that only 30% of work has been done, a proper evaluation by experts would show that significant groundwork has been completed, setting the stage for the installation of key components such as the artificial turf, tartan track, scoreboard, and floodlights. The reality is that these elements require precision and adherence to international standards, ensuring that the facility meets FIFA-approved specifications.

3. Misrepresentation of Commitments

The reference to an "8-week completion promise" is a gross misinterpretation of what was actually stated. While there were initial projections, unforeseen circumstances—including funding delays and procurement challenges—have influenced the timeline. No responsible contractor rushes a multimillion-naira project to meet an unrealistic deadline at the expense of quality.

4. Political Undertones

It is no secret that certain individuals have sought to politicize the Aper Aku Stadium project, using misinformation to discredit both the contractor and the government’s commitment to sports development. This does a disservice to the real stakeholders—the football fans, athletes, and the Benue sports community—who deserve facts, not sensationalism.

5. Lobi Stars and the Stadium Issue

While Lobi Stars have been playing outside the state due to ongoing renovations, efforts are being made to ensure their return home as soon as the stadium meets required standards. The false hope that a mere "House of Assembly intervention" will suddenly resolve all technical and infrastructural requirements overnight is both misleading and unrealistic.

Conclusion

The public is urged to disregard unfounded accusations and await an official update from relevant authorities overseeing the renovation. Monimichelle Sports Facilities Construction Limited remains committed to delivering a world-class stadium, and the project will be completed within the framework agreed upon with the government.

Spreading misinformation does not help the cause of Benue football; supporting truth and progress does.
