The defending champions, Zamalek, and the record holders, Al Ahly, have secured their spots in the final of the African Women's Clubs Volleyball Championship. The Egyptian clubs will face off in the final on Sunday after record victories against their opponents on Friday.
In a thrilling match, Zamalek defeated Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) 3-2 (25-23, 28-26, 19-25, 24-26, 15-12), while Al Ahly thrashed CFC of Tunisia 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-21) to qualify for the final.
The match between Zamalek and KPC lived up to expectations, with the Kenyans enjoying the support of the spectators at the stand. Fans commended the display of both teams, saying Africa will have good representatives at the World Cup later in the year.
Al Ahly took an early lead and dominated the first set with strong hitting, winning 25-15. They continued their good form in the second set, showing excellent performances and defense to outplay CFC 25-23. The third set also went in favor of Al Ahly, with a 25-21 win.
After the game, Zamalek's captain, Noura Azmy, attributed their hard-fought victory to the special concentration tricks handed to them by their coach. "It was an unbelievable game. It was a very hard one. Since day one, we've been preparing for this type of match," Azmy said.
"Concentration won it for us. Coach keeps saying we have to focus and concentrate, and that our concentration is not on the crowd but the court. He also gives us some tricks to focus on players who are weak in particular aspects of the game and their positions," she added.
Zamalek will be playing in their third consecutive final, having won the last two editions in 2023 and 2024. The team is determined to win the cup on Sunday, with Azmy saying, "I'm praying we'll win the cup on Sunday, Insha Allah."
The final match between Zamalek and Al Ahly promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams looking to emerge victorious.
