"Monimichelle Sports is ready to give NSC free consultation on how to construct good football pitches"~ Ebi Egbe
By Dayo Awoniyi
Chief Executive Officer of Monimichelle Sports Facilities Construction Limited, Ebi Egbe, has commended the giant stride of the National Sports Commission under its current chairman, Mallam Sheu Diko, and the Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, and promised to give free consultation as an expert in his field to support their vision.
Ebi made this statement on the backdrop of the NSC chairman's working visit to Europe and partnership deal acquired, in which football pitches will be constructed in various parts of Nigeria. He, however, advised the NSC, in his words: "Nice move! However, a pitch that works in Europe most times struggles to work in Africa, most especially West Africa and Nigeria in particular."
"As a trained groundsman with a specialty in Hybrid pitch technology, I will advise the sports commission chairman to tread carefully on this very sensitive pitch issue because Nigeria does not have the culture to support those European pitches, and more so, he need expert(s) to help him in this area. "
He further said, "Mallam Dikko is no doubt a good administrator in the football sector. What Nigeria needs today are sustainable pitches that can outlive major tournaments by 10 years."
Ebi Egbe, who is a household name in sports facilities construction, shed light on what the company does and its readiness to support the growth of sports in Nigeria: "We are Monimichelle Sports, our primary business is sports construction with a special focus on hydroponic hybrid pitch technology. This is our turf; if the sports commission needs advice on the Nigerian pitch issue, we are ready to give them free consultative advice for free, and we don’t have to be their contractor."
As a patriotic Nigerian who has an interest in sports development, most especially football, Ebi Egbe said: "We are all pained that the Nigerian National Team does not have an elite pitch to support their elite style of play, thereby giving smaller countries an advantage when playing against the star-studded Nigerian Super Eagles team."
He further appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the good work that the NSC is doing, and Monimichelle Sports Facilities Construction Limited is willing and ready to support the commission.
