Abia Para Badminton Championships Set to Raise the Bar – Orbih
Abia State’s commitment to para badminton has earned high praise from Francis Orbih, President of the Nigeria Badminton Federation, as the state prepares to host two back-to-back international championships.
Orbih lauded Abia’s longstanding support and the current administration’s exceptional investment in the sport.
“I must commend the current governor. Every government in Abia has shown interest, but this one has raised the bar,” he said.
He noted the massive investment in accessible equipment, including buses and playing maps, which will leave lasting legacies after the events.
“A lot of people came up to me during the BWF AGM in China asking about the tournament. That tells you how much attention it’s getting,” Orbih revealed.
Ahead of the internationals, a national para badminton championship in July will serve as a test event to fine-tune logistics and facilities.
“We are grateful to the state government. What they’re doing is putting Nigeria on the global map for para badminton,” Orbih declared.
