Eniola’s African Award Boosted My Election – Orbih

President of the Nigeria Badminton Federation, Francis Orbih, has described Eniola Bolaji’s recognition as the African Women in Badminton Award (AWIBA) winner as an emotional and uplifting moment for Nigerian badminton.

Eniola became the seventh recipient of the prestigious award, and the second Nigerian after Mrs. Obiageli Solaja to earn the honor.

“Nobody predicted that she would be the winner,” Orbih said. “I was called out to receive the award on her behalf. It was a bit emotional for me.”

He recalled her dedication of the award to her late coach, a gesture that deeply resonated with many in the sport.

Orbih noted that Eniola’s achievement had a ripple effect on his successful BWF Council election.

“Her winning this award also contributed to my victory,” he revealed. “It portrayed Nigeria as a country doing something great for badminton.”

He further announced a groundbreaking three-year sponsorship package for Eniola, which will see her attend at least three international tournaments annually until 2028, alongside funding for kits and equipment — a first-of-its-kind support for Nigerian badminton.
