Eagles AFCON Monies: NFF applauds CBN for working assiduously on payment process

  The Nigeria Football Federation has decried insinuations in some quarters that the Central Bank of Nigeria is delaying payments of match bonuses and allowances due to the Super Eagles at the ongoing 34th Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cote d’Ivoire.   “That is sheer idle talk without substance. The NFF is grateful to the CBN for the way and manner they have continued to expedite action on payment requests that we have sent to them with regards to this competition. It is unfair for anyone to concoct lies against the institution for whatever reasons.   “We have not experienced any delays or complication of processes at the CBN this time, and we give kudos to them for their diligence and great sense of duty,” NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, said on Tuesday.   Sanusi also heaped plaudits on the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh for the commendable role he continues to play in ensuring the welfare of Nigerian footballers, nay athletes, ...

Sports Minister Senator John Owan Enoh  has reached out to the father of Okpala Tanya,Nigeria’s former tennis sensation whose video went viral recently revealing the lamentable state of the one time tennis champion. The minister contacted Tanya’s father who briefed him on her current condition and the genesis of her problem . He also confirmed to the Sports minister that the Nigerian Tennis Federation paid for Tanya’s first rehabilitation many years ago when her condition became public knowledge but sadly the former tennis star relapsed after a short while. Okpala Tanya was once a tennis player of repute who has played in a lot of tennis tournaments. She represented Nigeria  and the African continent  and won laurels to her name.She was a tennis juniors  champion who played at the highest level and was ranked number one at the time. Senator Enoh lauded the Governor of Anambra state for swinging into immediate action to remove the former tennis star from the streets....

Former French international and Arsenal prolific striker, Nicolas Anelka has becoming the CEO of Umraniyespor FC of Turkey, the club announced on Thursday.   Umraniyespor have been relegated from the top-flight Super Lig last season. Anelka, 44, a former France forward, played for many famous clubs in Europe such as Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Juventus. One of the leading football stars of his generation and key players at the English Premier League, Anelka spent one and half seasons at Fenerbahce to be the Turkish champion in 2005. He retired from football in 2016 after playing for India's Mumbai City. Anelka was the Premier League's top scorer with 19 goals in the 2008-09 season as a Chelsea player. Nigeria qualify for 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria U20 girls, Falconets, have earned a place at this year’s FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals after a goal by Opeyemi Ajakaye eventually brought down hard-fighting Burundi in a final round, second leg encounter at the MKO Abiola National Stadium on Saturday evening. This tallied to a 2-0 aggregate victory for Nigeria in the final round of the qualifying race in Africa.   The Falconets had won the first leg 1-0 in Dar es Salaam six days ago.   As was the case in the first leg in Dar es Salaam, the Nigerian girls created opportunity after opportunity, but failed to put them away to make their vast superiority count. Dapo Abiodun knocked Adebutu at Supreme Court

Dayo Awoniyi Supreme court today in it's judgment affirmed Governor Dapo Abiodun as the duly elected Governor of Ogun state. In the judgment delivered on Friday, Tijjani Abubakar, who led the five-member panel, dismissed the appeal filed by Ladi Adebutu, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last elections. In his rulings he said,“In the end, this appeal is unmeritorious and deserves to be dismissed. It is hereby dismissed,” Election conducted by   Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in March 2023, declared Abiodun winner with 276,298 votes, however, Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 262,38 while  Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came  third with 94,754 votes. Lions roar as they devour Gambia in an attempt to defend the trophy

  Franklyn Imonah Teranga Lions of Senegal started their Cup defense on a good note as they defeated their neighbor, Gambia by 3-0. The Lions came into the game determined not to take any chances as they scored very early precisely in the 4th minute with Gueye doing the job. Captain fantastic Sadio Mane provided the assist. On resumption in the second half, the Lions consolidated with Camara scoring in the 52nd minute. Camara was again on target in the 86th minute. It would be noted that other favorites like Nigeria, Ghana and Egypt started the tournament on a shaky note. While Nigeria and Egypt drew against Equitorial Guinea and Mozambique, Ghana fell by 1-2 to Cape Verde. The loss to Cape Verde caused an uproar in the camp of the Black Stars as a disappointed fan attacked the coach. The fan has since been handed over to the police.
