Shaibu's Victory: Court Reinstates Edo Deputy Governor, Slams Impeachment as Unconstitutional

  Dayo  Awoniyi The Federal High Court in Abuja has reinstated Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State, nullifying his impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly. Justice James Omotosho's judgment deemed the impeachment illegal, unconstitutional, and in violation of provisions of both sections 188 and 35 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended. The court ordered Shaibu's reinstatement, payment of salaries and benefits from April 8, and a perpetual injunction against Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Edo Assembly from hindering Shaibu's duties. The Inspector General of Police was also directed to restore Shaibu's security details. The court dismissed the reasons for Shaibu's impeachment as a politically motivated vendetta, marking a significant victory for the reinstated Deputy Governor.

Players exodus hit Kwara United FC as 22 were layoff, recruits top Stars ahead of 2024/24 NPFL season.

  No less than 22 players of Kwara United Football Club have been laid off ahead of the incoming season, according to the management of the club. This was revealed by the General Manager of Kwara United FC, Bashir Badawiy, during the first official training session  of the team  on Monday ahead of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). Badawiy  said that  additional 23 top stars from the NPFL have been recruited to strengthen the club ahead next season.   Dayo Awoniyi Fosla FC's female football team emerged as the champion of the inaugural HerGame female football championship, organized by the HerGame Foundation. The team, owned by former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Alhaji Sanni Lulu Abdulahi, defeated E Paul Football Club 4-2 in a penalty shootout after the game ended goalless in regular time. The match was thrilling, with both teams showcasing excellent football skills, entertaining the fans. In the third-place match, Basic Queens defeated Josiah FC 5-4 in a penalty shootout, after neither team scored in 90 minutes. Favour Etim of Paul E FC emerged as the highest goal scorer with six goals. Queen Joseph of Fosla FC was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, while Magdalene Etim of Paul E FC was awarded the best goalkeeper of the tournament. The champion, Fosla FC, received ₦250,000, while the first runner-up, Paul E FC, received ₦150,000. The second runner-up, Basic Queens, was awarded ₦100,000.

  Fosla FA and Paul E has qualified  for the finals of Her Game Foundation Female Football Tournament maiden edition.  The semi final games was decided today the 6th of July at Area 3 Sports complex. The first semi final between Paul E and team Josiah one of the tournament favorite saw Paul E defeating Josiah 2:0. In a clingy game that left Josiah disappointed as they have recorded  good number of goals prior to the clash. As they were a top scoring side.   Nigeria captain, Ahmed Musa, has expressed his readiness to support the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter on Sunday. Musa, a key figure in Nigerian football, made this commitment during a courtesy visit by the FCT SWAN executive, led by Chairman Kelechi Onwudiwe, on Sunday, June 30, 2024, in Kaduna. Musa, who played a crucial role in Nigeria's 2013 African Cup of Nations victory in South Africa, emphasized the importance of sports writers in the growth of the sports industry. The West African nation's most capped player pledged to collaborate with the FCT chapter to promote Nigerian football and urged journalists to maintain objectivity in their reporting.
